I work with a local magazine to get into the best concerts in exchange for them using my images on their blog for free. My goal was to build my portfolio and market the pictures to the artists publicists in hopes of getting paid. Credit was given but no money. They have since taken the images down from their sites. I recently photographed a well known artist and used the fact that I was working with the mag to get a photo pass.

That takes serious time, work and dedication. This type of photography, now vastly more accessible to photographers and clients, is becoming increasingly popular. Look into it. People want that? By and large, those genres of photography require a different approach in terms of making an income. Landscape photographers make their concegt by selling prints, books, teaching, or running photo tours. They do it on their own, and then have to work to sell the images. However I would have no idea where to start since I have no children if my. For the record, Rob and I were family and newborn photographers for years before mzking a baby of our. In terms of where to start I would do some research online to get a good idea of what to expect. I did research myself when I photographed a birth, even though I had already experienced it personally. Good luck! I was an elementary school teacher for 5 years and work with kids my whole life before that so I definitely get kids and love the craziness they can bring to a session!

But birth will be a new experience! I feel like you can also make a lot of money by specializing in just one or two of these things… by becoming known for what you do, people are willing to spend much more money than by doing a little bit of.

I totally agree, Sophia! Specializing in one or two areas of photography is a great pnotographer to focus your attention, and grow your skills. Photographeer other day someone contacted me because he wanted a photographer to take photos of 2nd hand white goods. In fact, I did one on Halloween night because the owner of the business begged me to. I wish you would write about this genre in more detail because I could use some pointers.

The other mney about this is going to sound really bad to some but hey. It has an electronic viewfinder with various creative modes. I still have all my 35mm DSLR equipment but it usually stays at home. Collecting these ideas how to make money is very good and conccert certainly comcert first step to actually making money with photography.

However, at one stage people have to pick at least one of the ideas and start do something about it — and this is the hardest. Many may dream, but not. My first step into paid work was advertising locally. It moneyy a simple, little ad and that offered 1 hour portrait sessions for free.

These free sessions were great for me to gain experience — not only photography experience, but two other major points:. When I know someone, I find it easy to shoot a nice portrait. I have done a fair few of these free portrait sessions. In response to my ad, people started asking about wedding photography and I have now shot a few weddings as a paid service.

Many people push into wedding photography, because it is the easiest field to break into and make fairly decent money. A wedding is still a once in a life time event for many people. Shooting a wedding is a big responsibility. One thing I learnt is ckncert I now ask my brides to give me in writing what images they want. Now I ask them to give me before the wedding, in writing, what they expect to see on the images.

Great article. So to summarize, the real secret to making money with music photography is to: Maknig that your primary sustainable source of revenue is going to be shooting commercial work e. Concert photography is a blast, but does that blast produce bucks? The guys over at FStoppers. PS: agreed with the singers and a mic in their face haha :D. You also need professional photography equipment, meaning a DSLR. As mentioned, the majority of Music Photographers are freelance, and their pay is based on how many of their photos they are able to license or on a project-by-project basis if hired to cover a certain concert, for example. I agree that its tough to get paid with a photo a lot of other omney photographers produced. I shoot anywhere from paying concerts gigs a month, more in the summer. If you want, it wouldn’t hurt to start offering videography as a service alongside your making money as a concert photographer, since those seem to be higher in demand these days. Some photographers have a mirrorless as a second camera, but phone cameras are nixed, except for perhaps a quick shot or two for social media. So what do YOU think?
